A Thai university student has been crowned the world’s champion of Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 this year, beating many other candidates from around the globe.

The champion is Taweelap Suwattanapunkul, a third-year student from the Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi’s Faculty of Mass Communication Technology.

“His participation is a part of the 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship,” the university’s president Prasert Pinprathomrat said.

Certipot held the international competitions in Texas, the United States, earlier this month.

“I am so excited and happy to have made a name for my country and my university,” Taweelap said.

He also thanked his university and all the people who supported his participation in the international contest.

Taweelap said he had a keen interest in computers all his life.In his younger years, he had also won several local contests in the field.

“I dream of becoming a computer teacher one day,” he said. Prasert said his university had sent its students to the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships for two consecutive years now.

Last year, its representative Sukanya Maneewong – then a fourthyear student at the university’s Faculty of Science and Technology claimed the No 7 spot in the Microsoft Word 2007 Specialist World Championships.

According to Prasert, his university has had a policy to require all its students to acquire the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) before their graduation.
